Bug Fix: 6/28/16

Put the quest to the test!

A major update to the Quest Log page has arrived! As some of you may have noticed, we changed the organization to make it a little clearer. Quests are now sorted into an Active tab, which has all of your in-progress quests grouped together, and by type: Hourly, Daily, and Story. As the name suggests, Hourly and Daily quests are repeatable quests that refresh every hour/day. Story quests, on the other hand, are unique and can only be completed or rejected once!

The auto-restock timer was causing strange bugs, so we have found a replacement code that creates a Restock button instead. Now you should be able to have tabs open in as many places as you want without worrying about weird timer issues!

We’ve also modified the Kith names so that there is now a 15 character limit on names. I understand that this is a bit restricting - sorry xxSasukeUchiha1994xx - but it should help prevent some bugs we were noticing on the alpha servers from infecting our beta servers.

You may notice that all confirmation buttons now show “Processing…” after you click on them and before the request has finished processing. This should fix all the bugs that were occurring because of accidental double-clicks!

Just in case it doesn’t, however, we’ve added a simple error page! Iris is as sorry as we are that the site breaks sometimes! :C

As has been requested by multiple users, we’ve vastly increased the character limit on Forum titles! (thanks superbearwars!) We’ve also added Help tabs to the shop pages as well.

Finally, I have a question to ask our users: currently, we have a security check in place that prevents a user from being logged in from multiple locations. This is meant to help prevent two people from trying to play on the same account at the same time - which causes the data to stop updating from one person - or to alert you if someone else logs into your account. However, some users have pointed out that they like having multiple logins across multiple devices - computer, tablet, mobile - so we are considering whether or not to disable this security feature. Please tell us what you think in the comments!

Game on!

A major update to games is here! I’ve finished up the error message code, so now we have a little more help when troubleshooting. There are 4 types of error messages:

no authentication: The authentication is the random code at the end of the game URL, which is generated anew each time you open the game. Usually this error message happens because you opened a link from the wrong URL, so try clicking on the Fullscreen/Mobile buttons on the site to solve this.

invalid authentication: This means your authentication is outdated, which usually happens because you’ve got multiple tabs open or you used a bookmark to get to the game. Try reopening the game via the Fullscreen/Mobile buttons on the site. Note: sometimes you will still be able to receive rewards even with this error message, such as if you have multiple tabs open! I’m working on a way to make this ONLY show up when you’re not receiving rewards.

no user id: This means you have no recognizable user, so you probably got logged out. Try logging back in and reopening the game via the Fullscreen/Mobile buttons on the site.

timeout: Your connection is not fast enough to receive updates from the game to give you rewards! :( Check your network settings and try again. On mobile, we recommend playing over wifi or 3G and up.

Paper Airplane has also received a new button on mobile: Half-Jump Mode. This mode changes the input from “a single touch” to “a single tap” to cause the paper airplane to bounce upwards. Some users were having difficulty with double-jumps instead of single jumps, so this will halve those into single taps and make the game work for them as well as mobile users who do not have the double-jump problem.

A quest a day keeps the bugs away!

Or so I hope! I've added Daily Quests as of tonight; they may take up to 24 hours to become available for your account. Completing these every day will earn you some rewards, as well as maintain your Reputation with each Character!

As necey pointed out, having the Quests disabled meant that every Character except Piper was slowly losing Reputation points because they felt ignored. For any week 1 or 2 backers who have used their Letter of Recommendations, please send me a message and I will grant you another batch of Letters to make up for that loss of Reputation points.

More Quests are on the way next week! These Quests may also receive some updates as we add more items to the site.

Edit: Ah, I'm sorry, I know the Quest Log page is unclear right now. I have a meeting on Monday to discuss with our team how best to fix that from a design perspective. So! Daily Quests can be found under the "Active" tab on your Quest Log page. They are NOT found on the Character's page in the town; that is where Hourly Quests appear. If you have any questions, check out the Help tab on the Quest Log or send me a message!

A little bit of good news:

Just a small update tonight! Memory and Paper Airplane have been updated with different attribute rewards, and a notification on the game over screen whenever you have received attribute rewards. Harder difficulty levels will now grant more attribute points! Memory now grants 1-3 random attribute rewards (evenly weighted between Speed, Power, and Guard) after completing 4 levels (a single complete game). Airplane now grants 1-3 random attribute rewards (evenly weighted between Speed, Power, and Guard) after passing 100 trees.

The error message code is coming along nicely. Those of you who are having trouble receiving rewards should be able to troubleshoot problems more easily when that update to games is released next week!

Pretty and plain...

We have two wonderful design updates for you today. For one, as you may have noticed, the Forums now have updated read/unread icons! These are much easier to distinguish, especially on tiny phone screens.

For another, games now have a notification on the end screen which shows you any Kith attribute bonuses that you have/have not earned. Memory should grant attribute rewards at the end of level 4, while Airplane should grant attribute rewards only after reaching 60 obstacles in one game session. Refreshing the page or opening a new game tab or logging in/out will end that session and stop granting you game rewards.

Edit: Added one more update for the night before we start inviting the next 100 closed beta testers in! Some users had expressed confusion over the poorly-phrased "from username" field beneath Messages, so we removed "from" and now it simply states the username of whomever your Message conversation includes.
